Academic meeting in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Pierre-Samuel Dupont de Nemours’ death

On December 14th and 15th 2017, at Paris II Panthéon-Assas University

The purpose of this meeting is to understand Pierre-Samuel Dupont de Nemours’ political ideas and actions, through his multiple skills (he was a journalist, an advisor for princes, ministers, presidents, a negotiator, a member of Parliament…). Those skills raise a multitude of questions that this meeting offers to tackle. It aims at both at shedding light on an unknown aspect of this character, and at going into some of his ideas or undertakings in depth.

The papers should deal preferably with one of the two following topics: on the one hand, the post François Quesnay period and the scattering of the “secte physiocratique”, or about the Turgot minister in the American exile ; and on the other hand, the political, constitutional, diplomatic, administrative and historical matters. The organizers want those topics to be dealt with, if possible, not only under a comparative angle with the European States or the United States for frame, but also under an interdisciplinary angle, in order to compare the vision of legal historians, politists, historians, legal experts, sociologists, etc.
